In this specialised QUBITS seminar, Prasana Kumar Sahoo will present recent advances in scalable quantum materials and show how engineered 2D heterostructures can enable reconfigurable quantum technologies, including quantum light sources, excitonic circuits and integrated quantum photonic systems.</p>

                    <p class="p2">Two-dimensional (2D) lateral heterostructures provide a versatile platform for controlling <span class="s2">electrons, light–matter interactions, and quantum excitations </span>at atomically sharp one-dimensional interfaces. We have developed scalable methods to synthesize seamless heterostructures and superlattices with tailored composition and electronic properties. These materials exhibit tunable light emission, photodetection, and excitonic switching, enabling multifunctional device operation.&nbsp;</p>
<p class="p2">By combining lateral and vertical engineering, we further realize programmable moiré quantum landscapes that manipulate excitons and phonons. Such capabilities open new opportunities for reconfigurable quantum technologies, including quantum light sources, excitonic circuits, intelligent photodetectors, and integrated quantum photonic systems.</p>

                About the speaker

                    <p class="p2">Dr. Prasana Kumar Sahoo is an Assistant Professor at IIT Kharagpur and leads the Quantum Materials and Device Research Laboratory (QMDrL) at Materials Science Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. His research focuses on 2D quantum materials, van der Waals heterostructures, excitons, and quantum/optoelectronic devices.&nbsp;</p>
<p class="p2">He received his PhD in Physics with a Gold Medal for Outstanding Thesis and has held research positions at the University of Cambridge (UK), University of South Florida (USA), and University of Campinas (Brazil), and served as a Visiting Professor at EPFL, Switzerland. He currently leads several projects under India’s National Quantum Mission and DST Nano Mission, advancing quantum materials and device technologies</p>
