The project fieldwork has begun with a small excavation in order to take a preview of the site stratigraphy. We have re-opened a profile, which was excavated in 1975, for the purpose of sampling for micromorphology and multi-element analysis. Both analyses require some months of processing and must therefore be carried out before the main excavation in order for them to contribute to a dynamic interpretation of the site. To our relief, the stratigraphy stands exactly as in the drawings made 41 years ago - suggesting that the site preservation has not seen further damage in that period.
