New Publication: Digital Dataset of Palmyra's Public Inscriptions

A new publication in the Journal for Open Archaeological Data introduces the most comprehensive collection of Palmyra's public inscriptions to date, bringing together 1134 stone-carved records from the first four centuries CE.

Compiled within the Circular economy and urban sustainability in Antiquity project, this dataset synthesizes corpora of Palmyrene Aramaic, Greek, and Latin inscriptions into a single, searchable CSV file.

By digitizing all available inscription records, the project offers unprecedented access to the epigraphic record of one of antiquity's most cosmopolitan cities, opening new avenues for studying urban development, elite patronage, and the evolution of social structures at the city of Palmyra. This work feeds directly into the LoCiS project, as we are studying the development of local and imperial habits through evolving social patterns, visible in the archaeological and epigraphical record.

The article is available open access and can be read here.
