Organic farming highlighted as key to future food resilience

Uppsala, June 2026 – Experts from across Europe gathered last week to discuss how organic farming can help build more resilient food systems in the face of climate change, resource scarcity and global instability.

The conference brought together researchers, policymakers and industry leaders, with a strong focus on the Nordic-Baltic region. Discussions centred on how organic practices—from improving soil health to enhancing biodiversity—can strengthen the entire food chain from farm to fork.

Key findings showed that consumers increasingly prefer organic and free-range production, while innovative approaches such as recycled fertilizers, crop diversification and improved animal welfare are boosting sustainability in agriculture.
However, participants also stressed that stronger policy support, better market conditions and continued innovation are needed for organic farming to reach its full potential.

The overall message was clear: organic agriculture can play a central role in creating more sustainable and resilient food systems in the years ahead.
