Abstract

Several events on the social media occurred recently that opened renewed discussion about sexism, and revealed that there is a deep split between two camps. It is not yet clear which side has won, but both camps see themselves as caring about the equality of women in science. I will sketch out the background to the debate and analyze the issues that divide the factions. I will also reflect on my own involvement in the debate, which tried but failed to move the debate forward. I will then try to summarize what I have learned from this sometimes grueling experience. I hope this will lead into an interactive discussion on whether the fight for the advancement of women in academia is slow but steady or whether is has stalled.
