Researcher in Agriculture/Soil Science - Austria

The main research activity for the position is to summarize and integrate knowledge within the EJP SOIL. Applications can be submitted until June 30th, 2020 or until the position is filled. Start: September 2020 or according to agreement.

The Institute of Soil Research is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate

Extent of employment: 40 Hours per Week

Duration of employment: 5 Years

Within the European joint program EJP SOIL “Towards climate-smart sustainable management of agricultural soils”. 24 countries are developing joint solutions to enhance the contribution of agricultural soils to key societal challenges: Climate change adaptation and mitigation are addressed, as well as sustainable agricultural production, ecosystem services provision, prevention and restoration of land and soil degradation, and biodiversity maintenance.


  • Summary and integration of knowledge outputs within the EJP SOIL
  • Coordination support for Workpackage 7 “Synthesis and Access to Infrastructure”
  • Data management and data evaluation
  • Publication of peer-reviewed papers, writing of national as well as international reports
  • Research and management activities for the whole program
  • Compilation of information on existing European lab facilities and long-term experimental sites dealing with agricultural soils
  • Organization of workshops, interviews with scientists and stakeholders, data collection and excerpts

Required skills and qualifications

  • PhD in Agriculture with specialization in Soil Sciences (or equivalent)
  • Expertise in soil organic carbon
  • IT-knowledge, advanced experience in data processing and statistical data analysis
  • Good publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent scientific as well as popular writing skills
  • Excellent communication in English language

Desirable skills and qualifications

  • Experience in writing review papers and meta-analyses
  • Experience with multifactorial data evaluation
  • Ability to quickly scan and survey information and extract the essence
  • Experience in project management and project administration
  • Handling of project administration tools in times of home-office, and travel barriers
  • Social skills and teamwork abilities, supervision of students
  • Understanding of German
  • Stress resilience, reliability, independence
