Work package 3: Uncovering genetic variation and integration of whole-genome marker information into pre-breeding

Phenotypes measured in WP1-2 and genotypic information will be integrated to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) and genetic factors contributing to resilience and RUE.

  • We will employ genome wide association study (GWAS) to identify candidate genes/genomic regions supporting pre-breeding for resilient crops.
  • The genomic synteny existing between maize and sorghum will be used to compare GWA results and to support findings on candidate genes across species.
  • Finally, genomic selection will be used to estimate individual’s genetic merit and to predict plant performance.
